Effective Computational Geometry for Curves and Surfaces Chapter 5 Meshing of Surfaces

چکیده
Meshing is the process of computing, for a given surface, a representation consisting of pieces of simple surface patches, like triangles. This survey discusses all currently known surface (and curve) meshing algorithms that come with correctness and quality guarantees. Page references to other chapters are to the pages of the book. The original publication is available on-line at www.springerlink.com. Some typographical errors and examples have been corrected.

ECG IST-2000-26473 Effective Computational Geometry for Curves and Surfaces
We present an algorithm for meshing surfaces that is a simple adaptation of a greedy “farthest point” technique proposed by Chew. Given a surface S, it progressively adds points on S and updates the 3dimensional Delaunay triangulation of the points. The method is very simple and works in 3d-space without requiring to parameterize the surface. Taking advantage of recent results on the restricted...
متن کاملAn Efficient Geometrical Model for Meshing Applications in Heterogeneous Environments
This paper introduces a new neutral hybrid discrete (in the limit continuous) solid CAD model for meshing applications within the Integrated Computational Environments, based on subdivision surfaces. The model uses the Boundary Representation for the CAD model topology and the Butterfly Interpolating subdivision scheme for definition of underlying curves and surfaces. It is automatically derive...

متن کاملCreating Exact Bezier Representations of CST Shapes
The paper presents a method of expressing CST shapes pioneered by Kulfan into stan dard Bezier curves and surfaces. Out of the seven standard shape classes identified by Kulfan as representable using CST curves, four of them, including airfoils, can be repre sented as Bezier curves exactly. For the other three, a convergent series expansion proves insufficient to achieve any practical accurac...
متن کاملFinite Element Mesh Sizing for Surfaces Using Skeleton
The finite element (FE) mesh sizing has great influence on computational time, memory usage, and accuracy of FE analysis. Based on a systematic in-depth study of the geometric complexity of a set of connected surfaces, a computational procedure for the generation of FE mesh sizing function is proposed. The computational procedure has three main steps: (1) Generation of source points that determ...
